Annabel Quisao

Annabel is known far and wide for her huge grins and prodigious laughter on the dance floor. A student of music all her life, Annabel caught the Lindy Hop bug in 2003 at Colgate University. Addicted to the communication and spontaneity of social dancing, she continued to delve into swing dances while at Penn State where she was introduced to Balboa, Blues dancing, and Collegiate Shag. For the past decade, she has traveled near and far to dance, teach, and compete, taking home top prizes in such events as the International Lindy Hop Championships, All Balboa Weekend, BluesShout, and the California Balboa Classic. Annabel is passionate about fostering a fun and inspiring class environment where students can explore their potential, push their boundaries, and have a good time! Currently, she resides in Washington, DC and is the Education Director at New Columbia Swing.

Joe and Kadie Pangburn

Kadie & Joe are known for their cuddly, partner-centric dancing. With a strong passion for connection and communication, they strive to make every dance a two-way conversation that promotes both individuality and collaboration between each other and the music.

For the past 8 years, the two have been passionately studying, preserving and sharing their love of Balboa, both as local teachers/mentors and as regional instructors. They are the creators and organizers of Balast Off! and also operate a bi-weekly balboa practice group out of their home.

A regular finalist at national and international Balboa competitions, Joe has received multiple 1st, 2nd & 3rd place placements for his dancing and together they have been participants of the Balboa Experiment for the past 6 years, where they were honored in 2017 as Honorary Fellows and served as guest mentors for the first time in 2018.

As instructors they are known for their ability to break down complex concepts into easily understood ideas. They enjoy sharing their love for balboa by bringing fun, laughter and the occasional spontaneous song into the classroom.

Douglas Mathews

Douglas has been dancing swing for over 15 years, and fell in love with Balboa as soon as he was introduced. The subtle rhythms and connection of pure bal, and the turning stretchy feeling of bal swing became his focus in dancing. Since then he has competed across the country winning awards at ABW, Cal Bal, ILHC, Camp Hollywood and others. He has been teaching Lindy and Balboa in the SF Bay Area since 2013, and loves to share the joy and connection of the bal dances with anyone who will listen.

As a teacher Douglas is invested in creating a nurturing environment for students to build body awareness and empathy for their partner and themselves in addition to the history and vocabulary of balboa and lindy hop. He loves teaching understanding of movement fundamentals and helping students appreciate the unique joy of improvising with another dancer to swing jazz music.

In the classroom her joy for teaching and quirky personality combine with a depth of knowledge and attention to technique that are 16 years in the making.  Her greatest hope is to help her students fall in love with the dance and continue to build a community of inspired, joyful, and supportive dancers!
